Fred Sturm, piano Music of Federico Ibarra Sunday, September 30, 3:00 pm Keller Hall, UNM Center for the Arts, $10/8/6 I have been learning, performing, and recording the music of Mexican composer Federico Ibarra for the past few years. I have now completed a CD of his complete works for solo piano, and this concert will mark the release of that CD, Federico Ibarra - Music for Piano. I will be performing six of his piano sonatas on the concert. Federico Ibarra is one of the very best composers living today. He writes music that has an astonishing immediacy, that connects with the audience in a visceral and immediate way, but has an underlying complexity of design that rewards repeated listening. It is very emotional music, ranging from tender, delicate and ethereal passages to passionate and thundering climaxes, with a fair amount of wit and humor thrown in as well. The process of working on these pieces over the years has only strengthened my belief that they are truly special, that they stand out among the best of music being written today and over the past few decades.
