Hariprasad Chaurasia, Zakir Hussain's brilliant performances have established him as a national treasure in his native India and as one of the world’s most esteemed and influential musicians who is also renowned for his genre-defying collaborations. The son of the revered tabla maestro, Ustad Alla Rakhah, Hussain is one of the chief architects of the world music movement and is responsible for bringing the tabla to a global audience. He is one of India’s most renowned cultural ambassadors and the favorite accompanist for most of the greatest classical musicians and dancers of India. He is known equally for his mastery of the classical Hindustani repertoire of ragas, as for his historic collaborations with John McLaughlin and L. Shankar with whom he founded Shakti; Planet Drum with the Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart; and for his performance and recordings with artists as diverse as George Harrison, YoYo Ma, Van Morrison, Mark Morris and many more. Rakesh Chaurasia is on the way to carrying the Chaurasia legacy to new heights and carving a niche for himself in the Indian Classical music arena. A member of Hussain’s Masters of Percussion ensemble, Chaurasia has enthralled audiences at concerts in Japan, Australia, Europe, South Africa and USA and recorded with the leading stalwarts of the Indian film industry. www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYRMiAZbYYk
