From Cat Hulshoff:
I am reaching out to you today to see if you might e able to assist in sharing an invitation to a symposium workshop I am hosting on March 22nd from 10am to 3pm at the CFA Downtown Studio gallery on 4th street. I have attached a post card invitation with some info and also a link to register for a free ticket.
This symposium is about ethical research and knowledge sharing but even more, it is about navigating those difficult gray areas of conducting research, behaving in an interdisciplinary way, collaboration, and the importance of community and how we as students and soon to be scholars in our own fields take responsibility for our work and the work of others. How do you responsibly research your creative process beyond the google search bar? How do you reach out? These are not skills learned in a classroom, but without knowing what you don't know, how could you know what questions to ask or how to find the answers? This workshop is aimed at getting at those concerns as a community (otherwise on and off campus). Speakers include historian Kirsten Pai Buick, critic Nancy Zastudil, local and loved artists sheri crider and Nani Chacon, and UNMAM curator Mary Statzer!
This symposium stemmed from the old "If I knew then, what I know now" feeling. This symposium features five amazing speakers followed by a workshop session in which we discuss with each other our roles in ethical research and writing, our successes and failures. It is characteristically artists, critics, and art historians, but this discussion is for ANYONE looking to continue on in their respective fields and higher education, or even for those looking for insight into their community.
If you could please share this invitation with your students they would be most welcome and we would LOVE to have their insight and needs included in this conversation. Please register for this free event, and know that there will be light refreshments provided and a lunch break included, though we cannot cover lunch (downtown has plenty of yummy options though).
Thank you so much for your time and assistance! I would love to have their voices present for this.
Very best,
