As Five Years Pass
By Federico García Lorca
Translation by Caridad Svich
Directed by Bill Walters
Playful, profound, and powerful, As Five Years Pass is a deeply personal play which fuses memories from Federico García Lorca’s childhood with images from his imagination into what he called a “legend of time.” Drawing upon surrealist influences, it takes us into the wandering mind of a confused young man encountering the pain of love and reluctantly facing up to his future. Finished five years to the day before Lorca was murdered, this rarely performed play is a work filled with premonitions and startling surprises. One of his so-called “impossible plays”, As Five Years Pass has been heralded as García Lorca’s most original and experimental contribution to the theatre and the play in which we see the true depth of the great theatrical personality he would have become. The cast includes Andres Moreno, Anne-Marie Little, Austin Dennis, Caroline Graham, Colin Butts, Haley Henson, Michael McMahan and Rebecca Pressland. The scenic design is by Marcela Oteiza, lighting design by William Liotta, and costume design by Anna Avery. The stage manger is Eddie Carrion.
