The University of New Mexico’s Department of Theatre and Dance is pleased to announce the world premiere of Simon as Sergio, a modern romantic comedy by Barney Lopez, directed by guest artist Jimmy Maize as part of the newly re-named Linnell Festival of New Plays at UNM. Performances of Simon as Sergio run April 11 through 20, 2014 in The Experimental Theatre on UNM’s Main Campus. This year’s festival also includes directed readings of two new works on April 4 and 5, by Kevin Hathaway and Irene Loy, MFA playwrights in UNM’s award winning Graduate Program in Dramatic Writing. In addition to the fully staged premiere of Simon as Sergio, and two directed readings, UNM honors the program’s founder Jim Linnell, re-naming the festival in his honor.
