The National Institute of Flamenco and the University of New Mexico’s Department of Theatre and Dance present Yjastros: The American Flamenco Repertory Company in a preview of the addition of four new choreographies to their expansive body of works, as part of their 2013 spring season. This glimpse into the rigorous training and rehearsal process of a professional dance company offers audiences a unique behind-the-scenes look into what it takes to produce a full theatrical dance spectacle.
The preview features four distinct works created by international master flamenco artists: Carmen “La Talegona”, Mercedes “Winy” Amaya and Concha Jareño. Through over 60 hours of rehearsal time with master artists, dancers will provide audiences a look into the structure of this flamenco repertory company and into the physically demanding and innovate process of flamenco dance education.
Q&A Session to follow each show on the experience of training with international flamenco artists during the first year of the Permanent Flamenco Visiting Line.
