Doctor Faustus By Christopher Marlowe Directed by Justino Brokaw Presented by the UNM Department of Theatre and Dance and SCRAP, the UNM Theatre Student Organization, this Doctor Faustus has a modern twist: Marlowe’s Faustus is a professor in the University of New Mexico, rather than the Medieval University of Wittenberg. Dr. John Faustus, has an endless thirst of knowledge, and through his blind determination unleashes forces he never imagined. In an attempt to explore the unknown, Dr. Faustus summons the demon Mephistopheles, offering his soul to Lucifer for ultimate power and knowledge. Hell happily obliges, making Mephistopheles servant to Faustus, on the condition that in 24 years his soul will be damned to hell. Faustus, having gained all the power and knowledge he dreamed, soon realizes the terrible fate that awaits him. What follows is a tale of ambition, despair, debauchery, and revelation as Heaven and Hell battle for the soul of one man: Dr. Faustus.
