The UNM Department of Theatre and Dance congratulates Professor Emerita Susan Pearson on receiving the AATE (American Alliance for Theatre and Education) Campton Bell Lifetime Achievement Award. Prof. Pearson received the award at the national AATE Conference in Chicago on Friday, July 29, 2011.
The Campton Bell Lifetime Achievement Award honors an individual for a lifetime of outstanding contributions to the field. It is named in honor of Campton Bell who served as President of CTC, Professor at the University of Denver and one of the founders of the Children's Theatre Foundation. The American Alliance for Theatre and Education connects and inspires a growing collective of theatre artists, educators, and scholars committed to transforming young people and communities through the theatre arts.
Prof. Pearson who retired in 2010, remains active. A tireless advocate for educational theatre, her most recent project is as director for the premiere of ASH TREE, written by a UNM Dramatic Writing MFA Georgina H Escobar. ASH TREE was a semi-finalist at the Bonderman New Theatre for Young Audiences Play Festival, sponsored by the Indiana Repertory Theatre, one of the two top venues for selecting and work shopping the best new plays for young audiences in the nation. It also won the Kennedy Center/ACTF Best New Play for Young Audiences award. Performances will be September 24th and October 1st at 5:30pm and September 25th and October 2nd at 2:30pm UNM, Mesa Vista Courtyard, 302 Cornell Dr. NE (On Campus) Directly in front of the STUDENT UNION BUILDING, next to the Student Health Center.
