Lobo Gardens is offering an upper-division (CELR430) Advanced Research Service-Learning Field School course in partnership with Qachuu Aloom, a community sustained agricultural cooperative in Rabinal, Guatemala. The Advanced Research Service-Learning Field School offers undergraduate students the opportunity to commit to two-week field experience with community partners in a local, state, regional or global setting to identify critical needs while providing meaningful and purposeful service that integrates reflection, social context, and social justice. Registration is by instructor permission only. Enrollment is limited to 15 students.
This is an open enrollment two-week field study program. The Field School course will be from March 11-25th, 2018. Students will travel to Rabinal as a group and will stay on the Qachuu Aloom campus and work with local indigenous farmers for two weeks. Cost of the program will be between $1,700 - $2,200 (not including tuition). Information on costs and how to enroll in the course will be provided at the information session.
This Advanced Research Service-Learning Field school introduces recent socio-cultural, political, economic and environmental changes in a region or area, with attention to systems of public education, youth development, health, housing and economic development. The Field School experience prepares students to participate in an intercultural exchange or study abroad project. The course is open to all undergraduate students who want to do service nationally or internationally on community development and social change projects.
We will be holding the first of two Information Session for interested students on Tuesday, December 12thfrom 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the University College Conference Room, 2nd Floor of the University Advisement & Enrichment Center, Room 261.
