The New Mexico Dream Team (NMDT) UndocuResearch Team is grateful to invite you to be part of our research regarding the effect of systematic racism and education attainment on the mental health of the undocumented immigrant community. This research is the first of its kind here in New Mexico where the research done is for and by undocumented immigrants. NMDT will be facilitating focus groups and interviews during the spring of 2017.
Through the UndocuResearch Project, the NM Dream Team seeks to document and provide a platform for DREAMers across New Mexico to share their stories of assimilation, resilience, and resistance as undocumented and mixed-status youth in the United States. The purpose of this research is to capture the immigrant experience while undergoing the assimilation process and the effect of racism on their mental health and overall academic achievement.
In order to participate in the focus groups you will need to be:
● Undocumented, DACAmented, and/or from mixed status family
● Over 18 years of age
● Previous or current NMDT member who has participated in either community organizing events, networking events, anti-racism pedagogy classes, and or leadership development.
This research is focused in building community capacity in health regarding our undocumented immigrant community. This research will allow us to identify and measure the impacts of systematic racism on the mental health and education attainment of undocumented and mixed status youth.
If you are interested in participating or want to know more about the research please feel free to contact the NMDT research coordinator Josue De Luna Navarro jdelunanavarro@unm.edu
Our first focus group will be:
WHERE: El Centro de la Raza Conference Room
WHEN: Saturday, March 11, 2017 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
If this doesn’t work for you we will be having other dates coming in the near future.
We hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
The UndocuResearch Team
