Hello-
I’m attaching a PDF of the crew call that we are putting out. I can also direct you to the Facebook page and the website.
Here’s a quick synopsis of the film, titled I AM THAT:
Sister Skylar has been living in a cloistered monastery in Roswell, NM for the last 15 years. When her little sister is diagnosed with a terminal illness, she chooses to remain in prayer rather than visit Cara's bedside. When Cara dies, Skylar regrets her decision and begins to question the choices she has made. She leaves the convent and begins a pilgrimage in the hopes that it will help her find renewed passion. Along the way she is befriended by a runaway boy and a train hopping hobo with their own reasons for traveling north. The style is very much inspired by magical realism, and the local landscape of the desert southwest. Rather than rely on existing religious symbolism, we are attempting to create something new in order to explore the Idea of vocation, faith and sacrifice as it pertains specifically to art and artists. Also the nuns are salmon colored, there’s an ogre under the bed and the kid is in a homemade samurai outfit.
I am the Production Designer for this film. The Director, Joy Marzec, and I, both have worked together on many projects. In fact, we met doing a production of Peter Pan in Seattle nearly ten years ago. One of the hallmarks of our collaborative style is that we are tactile oriented- rather than CG our way thru a magical scene we almost always opt for the more theatrical approach. Call it old school, or just call it Henson-esque; it is one reason that I am actively reaching out to the community for people who are interested in this style of filmmaking.
In terms of pay, I don’t have a lot of money but there may be some compensation, depending on skill set and availability. We are able to provide transportation and food for everyone, but some of the PA positions would have to be unpaid. I would encourage anyone to apply, especially since many of the positions would not be needed for the entire shooting or preproduction schedule.
Please share with anyone who might be interested!
