Students from the UNM "Re-Mix Culture" course (Art & Art History) and the Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez (UACJ-Visual Arts Department) are engaging in a semester-long partnership centered on the concept of the remix as a strategy for collaboration and creating shared dialogue between the cities of Albuquerque, USA and Juárez, Mexico. In March, UNM students traveled to Juárez to collaboratively produce the first public event, which took place in downtown Juárez at the Centro Municipal de las Artes on Thursday, March 12. UACJ students will travel to Albuquerque for the final public video/performance event, which will take place on Thursday, April 30th from 8-11pm on 5th Street between Central and Copper. The groups will present “ALBUREZ Returns!” a VJ event with projections on the west wall of the historic KiMo Theatre, featuring music by DJ cp_squared. This event is free and open to the public.
This course is led by Szu-Han Ho (UNM) and Gabriela Durán-Barraza (UACJ). The program is made possible by the US Embassy/GEO Global Studies Grant, UNM College of Fine Arts Dean's Travel Grant, and Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez.
