A special two day event at SCA Contemporary Art (524 Haines NW):
Saturday, October 18th from 5-8pm and
Sunday, October 19th from 10am-2pm.
Join us on Saturday October 18 (anniversary of the Clean Water Act!)
A vast collection spanning two decades of Basia Irland’s career will be featured in a fundraising event to benefit international water projects. The works available include photographs, sculptures, scrolls, prints, earth-coated walking sticks, and drawings. All works will be sold at a suggested donation to benefit two major organizations working globally for sustainable water.
The two beneficiary organizations are Water for People (global, sustainable, water projects) and We Rotary (building water systems for school children in poverty regions of the world).
Water for People brings together international communities to establish creative, collaborative solutions that allow people to build and maintain their own reliable safe water systems.
We Rotary is headquartered in Hawaii and Alaska and is focused on providing clean water for school children in Northern Myanmar and other places of great need.
Basia Irland is Professor Emerita, Department of Art and Art History, University of New Mexico, where she established the Arts and Ecology Program. A Fulbright Scholar, Irland is a sculptor and installation artist, a poet and an activist whose focus on international water issues have taken her around the world, most recently to do research and create documentary films in Egypt, Ethiopia, India, and Nepal. Her book, Water Library, describes her artwork with waterborne diseases, river restoration projects, and rainwater harvesting systems. Look for her blogs on the National Geographic website.
