"Dane Rudhyar and the Meta-Physics of Dissonance"

Richard Cameron-Wolfe, renowned pianist and composer has recently performed in Berlin, Astrakhan, and Moscow. Forthcoming in 2011, are performances in Albuquerque (February 16 at UNM), Seattle, Los Angeles, Utrecht, Zhitomir (Ukraine), Omsk, Novosibirsk, and Nizhny Novgorod. His repertoire is primarily focused on early 20th-century modernists.
As composer, Cameron-Wolfe’s entire catalogue has just been accepted for 2010-2011 publication by the American Composers Edition. Additionally, several of his chamber compositions will be recorded in November for a Furious Artisans CD, to be released in 2011. During the past year, his 2009 composition Roerich Rhapsody (for cello and piano) was performed in Astrakhan, Moscow, Zhitomir, and New York City. Heretic, his “micro-opera” for guitarist, will be premiered in New York in June, 2011. He is currently at work on an orchestral composition, Infra/Ultra.
Cameron-Wolfe studied piano and composition at Oberlin College and Indiana University, his principal composition teachers being Bernhard Heiden and John Eaton, his principal piano teachers Joseph Battista and Menahem Pressler. Equally important were his post-graduate mentors, Dane Rudhyar and Noel Farrand. He subsequently taught composition, music history, and music resources for choreographers at UW-Milwaukee and during his 23-year tenure at Purchase College, SUNY.
All talks in the Distinguished Speaker Series will be held at the UNM Art Museum and are FREE and open to the public. Please join us!
The UNM Art Museum is located on the campus of UNM in the Center for the Arts, adjacent to Popejoy Hall. Open Tuesday - Friday: 10-4, Saturday & Sunday: 1-4 and during the evening talks.
