OASIS Albuquerque Presents 2 session class on Robb
« Thread Started on May 31, 2012, 2:20pm »

For the past 23 years, The UNM John Donald Robb Musical Trust has been keeping alive the legacy of John Donald Robb, former dean of the UNM College of Fine Arts. Who was this man who created the UNM Orchestra shortly after arriving in Albuquerque to chair the UNM Music Department in 1941 and for whom the UNM Composers' Symposium is named?

OASIS Albuquerque, a learning center for people older than 50, is offering a two-session class on Dean Robb (#54). You will find out what drove him to spend countless hours in rural New Mexico recording traditional Hispanic folk songs (he recorded nearly 3,000 songs.) He also composed a large body of work, from symphonies to choral works and operas. During the 1960s, he bought a Moog synthesizer and composed more than 65 pieces for that ground-breaking instrument. His dedication to music and education is legendary.

David Oberg, former chair of the Robb Trust and a close friend of Dean Robb's, will teach the OASIS class from 10:30a-noon on June 7 and 14 at the OASIS center in Macy's at Coronado Mall. Cost is only $14. For more information and to sign up, here's the website:
